The relics of Theta Sigma Tau Letters Pendant
This pendant was discovered for auction on eBay in mid October of 2008. Pete Lenz (1989) discovered it and brought it home.
The pendant is gold, with a small emerald at each point and seed pearls (14 of them) between the emeralds. It is 5/8" long and 1/2" wide. On the back is etched "F.I.B." We don't currently have anyone with those initials listed in our membership roll, but it is possible that some names are missing.
It is NOW a pendant, but examination of the item suggests that it was originally a small pin, with the pin part hinged from the top and a small catch near the bottom. The pin was bent and fixed in position to provide the "hang" that makes it a pendant while the catch appears to have been ground off.
The seller of the piece had little information on it. He believed that it was from his grandmother's collection of jewelry, much of which she had accumulated from rummage sales while living in Florida.
We suspect that this pendant/pin predates the Sigma Nu era of the House. Photos in Crimsons from the early and middle twentieth century show pins of a slightly similar style. If any visitor to this page knows anything about this pin or this style of pin, please contact Pete Lenz (1989).
